WHEN WE’RE NOT READING?

Sometimes we give books a break. And when we do? From pyjamas to politics, here’s what we’ve been enjoying of late…

We’re Treating Ourselves…

Not with some expensive serum or luxurious facial – but with our own fair hands, and sometimes a few clever tools. How to mimic the effect of a spendy treatment chez toi? Facial massage. Increasing blood flow and stimulating circulation boosts collagen production while banishing puffiness. It also helps muscles to relax AKA au revoir fine lines and wrinkles. Try a jade face roller or massage tool or just your finger tips – lots of tips via facialist, Su-Man Hsu (who featured in our first ever box!). We always use a relaxing facial oil too – Stress Check from This Works is fantastic, and we’d recommend any of The Ordinary‘s reasonably-priced oils.

We’re Listening…

What happens when singer-songwriter Jessie Ware and her Mum, Lennie get together and cook a meal for a selection of interesting famous people? Nothing short of magic! Guests to date on podcast Table Manners have included Sandi Toksvig, Will Young and Sam Smith, and the duo of hostesses create a delicious meal to serve up during the podcast – along with hilarious, engaging, intelligent conversation. Chats take in life, food, family and everything in between – we LOVE this.

We’re Wearing…

Pour Les Femmes. A collection of nightwear made in the softest Indian cotton, perfect for snuggling up on the sofa and long weekend lie-ins. Launched by Robin Wright (yes, that Robin Wright!) and designer, Karen Fowler, Pour Les Femmes’ goal is “to make simple, beautiful, and quality pieces while creating economic opportunity for women in conflict regions around the globe.” The pieces are pretty, feminine and just a little whimsical. Perfection.

We’re Laughing…

While watching Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. A black comedy starring Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell? Directed by Martin McDonagh of In Bruges fame. It’s a no brainer.

We’re Enjoying…

Rococo’s ridiculously delicious Roald Dahl chocolate bars. Yes, when we’re not eating healthy January snacks, Rococo’s chocs – inspired by eight of Dahl’s best-loved books – are on our treats menu. Matilda, Charlie, James and George, they’re all here! Frobscottle & Snozzcumber White Chocolate, anyone?

We’re Staying At…

The latest opening from the Experimental Cocktail Club – the Hotel Grands Boulevards. After the oh-so-Instagrammable Grand Pigalle in Paris and Henrietta Hotel in London, this is their second address in the city of light and it’s very, very pretty. The central location is excellent, the design similarly-snappable and the cocktails? Well, you’ll have to go stay, won’t you? And OUI, there’s a roof terrace too… On y va, chéri?

We’re Singing Along To..

First Aid Kit are back. Dreamy melodic sounds to enchant your ears. Turn it up.

We’re Visiting…

From Life – at the Royal Academy. “Looking to the past, present and future of one of the cornerstones of artistic process, we ask what it means to make art from life, and how the practice is evolving as technology opens up new ways of making and seeing.” With works on display from the 18th century up to the present day, and artists including Lucian Freud, Antony Gormley and Jenny Saville, it’s an exhibition to make you think.

We’re Powering Up…

With the prettiest chargers we’ve ever seen. Just LOOK at these. White marble, sleek metallic accents – and not an ugly cable in sight. Native Union‘s charging docks are what you need in your life.

We’re Watching…

We’re already big fans of Monocle’s podcasts, and Monocle Film – the magazine’s visual output certainly lives up to its audio counterparts. Art and architecture, property and politics – bitesize watching that easily outruns YouTube scrolling. Watch three films and we guarantee you’ll feel smarter.
